Why Heartstrings?
- Almost 1 in 4 of all hospitalizations for children and youth 5-24 are related to mental health reasons;
- In 2023, youth under 29 represented 18% of apparent opioid toxicity deaths in Canada;
- Girls aged 10-19 are 5.2x more likely than boys to be hospitalized for self-harm;
- More than half (57%) of people aged 18-24 who had early signs of a mental illness said that cost was an obstacle to getting mental health services.
- The % of youth who rated their mental health as "poor" or "fair" rose from 12% in 2019 to 26% in 2023.
Funds raised will make a huge impact in our community, supporting mental health programs and services for local youth and families.
