Another nominee for this year’s Manufacturing Safety Innovator Award is Urban Impact Recycling Ltd. They strongly believe that a successful safety program begins with leadership and setting the tone and priority on safety. In addition to leadership, engagement from all staff at all different levels within the company is critical for safety success. For Urban Impact Recycling, safety must be a team approach to achieve the desired goal of Zero Incidents, Zero Accidents. Good luck! Did you know that Safety Meta World is using virtual and augmented reality technology to create experiential learning experiences to elevate health and safety training?
Experiential learning is a time-tested approach. Recognizing the effectiveness of experiential learning, educators have long understood that active participation fosters better retention. The “Cone of Experience” introduced by Edgar Dale in the 1960s reinforced this notion, emphasizing the superiority of “learning by doing.” AR and VR epitomize experiential learning, offering students immersive and engaging experiences that transcend physical and virtual boundaries. Learn more about how Safety Meta World is leveraging augmented and virtual reality platforms to provide experiential learning for improved retention of health and safety principles. https://lnkd.in/gT5yizx8 . . . #eLearning #augmentedreality #virtualreality #experientiallearning #safetytraining #safetyeducation #safetyfirst

This afternoon’s industry keynote panel looks at some of the takeaways and learnings from the 2023 wildfire season. A couple things to already note: - meeting other emergency responders and team members should not happen during an emergency, making the connections in advance means that you’re able to respond quickly and well - evaluating what local resources are available to meet supply chain demands is key to helping ensure your business can continue during a disaster - normal day to day incidents still happen, even during times of emergencies; it’s not either or, but teams having to respond to both the ordinary and extraordinary at the same time Thank you Jason Brolund, Gavin W Johnston, and Lesli Bradley for joining Lisa McGuire in this conversation. . . . #MakeItSafe #safetyatwork #emergencyresponse

An incredibly touching keynote that sparked reflection on how honest reflection makes a difference in building a strong safety culture. For Dinoflex, Mark Bunz shared that this it was an event that affected an individual, a family, their team, and their leadership— an event that affected a community—that lead them down this path. Dinoflex is managing the fallout from the accident, their relationships with customers, and their team’s worries. They had never had a serious accident. Had they been curious and had the mindset they have today, how things could have changed. Shane would still be here with us today. . . . #safetyatwork #makeitsafe

CEO Lisa McGuire reflects on the why heath and safety are important, and the purpose behind hosting Make It Safe Okanagan. With 175 lives lost last year due to workplace incidents, we are honoured to have a full room of local heath, safety, and business leaders come together to make a change.
