This week, our team is thrilled to participate in the CCVO's Connections Conference in Calgary! Celebrating its 10th year, this conference brings together leaders from nonprofit, business, and government sectors across Alberta to explore innovative solutions and share best practices. The focus? Inspiring action to address complex challenges from a systems perspective. As we gather in Calgary, we’re eager to spotlight one of our favourite volunteer-powered local initiatives, Colouring It Forward and CIF Reconciliation Society. Says founder Diana Frost, “Our nonprofit CIF Reconciliation Society relies on the incredible contributions of many volunteers to create powerful reconciliAction events, like our annual Calgary walk, Pokaiks - The Children.” To fund the events, Diana’s remarkable social enterprise Colouring It Forward produces authentic books, cards, colouring books and journals that elevate the voices of Indigenous artists and elders and tell a story of hope and dignity for Indigenous peoples. “We worked with Purppl to help us develop a more sustainable business model for our social enterprise, and find ways to increase and strengthen our revenue streams from customers as opposed to just grants. Together, we worked on a wholesale financial model for our Indigenous colouring books and art, as well as getting clearer on our impact goals and how to measure them, and tell our story. The support and trusting, reciprocal relationship with our Purppl coach, Alyssa J Farr, really increased my confidence as a leader, helped me focus on things that would move us forward, and gave me a usable framework for making key decisions. As we build revenue and impact for our non-profit reconciliation activities, I'm so glad the Purppl team is alongside us on the journey." Will you be at the conference? Keep an eye out for Purppl’s People & Operations lead Domenica Chieffo. She’ll be there listening and learning, and would welcome your questions and ideas for how Purppl might support your organization, like we did Diana’s, to build regenerative revenue, a financial model and an impact measurement framework to enable more impact. Send her a DM or say hi if you spot her around! #CCVOConnections #NonprofitInnovation #SocialImpact

What does revenue diversification mean to you? Building and leading social enterprises that have multiple revenue streams is key to creating sustainable impact in community. This shift in mindset reduces the risk that unstable funding poses, and allows these social enterprises more control, and a greater ability to thrive. Duncan Whittier from The Outdoor Learning Store, Mike Greer from Elevation Outdoors and Alyssa J Farr from Purppl recently led a workshop on revenue diversification for social enterprises.  These are some of the reflections and main takeaways from the workshop, along with some sound insights on how we can lead a strategic shift to embrace the social enterpise model through revenue diversification, and navigate the complexities of risk management through intentional analysis. They presented to a roomful of social entrepreneurs convened for a series of peer roundtables, in partnership with Community Futures East Kootenay and ETSI-BC (Economic Trust of the Southern Interior). Each session brings together 19 social entrepreneurs and a guest speaker to learn and connect, after which the resources are shared on Community Futures of East Kootenays’s website: https://lnkd.in/gF2ruDDK Click that link to find the full presentation and reach out to the Purppl team if you’re seeking a partner in exploring social enterprise opportunities or would like to bring this workshop to your community. #SocialEnterprises #Community #RevenueDiversification

Jude here. As a settler in Canada, from the UK, this personal account from Pascale Harper, really resonated with me. Pascale is a transgender person generously sharing their personal journey today, March 31st, on International Transgender Day of Visibility. Their descriptions of conversations with strangers on the tube, and barriers they've had to overcome in the often judgemental world of engineering and construction, show me once again how important awareness days like #TDOV truly are. International TDOV was created in 2009 by trans advocate Rachel Crandall. She created TDOV in response to the overwhelming majority of media stories about transgender people being focused on violence. She hoped to create a day where people could celebrate the lives of transgender people, while still acknowledging that, due to discrimination, not every trans person can, or wants to be, visible. Given that only a minority of people say they personally know someone who’s transgender, the vast majority of the public learns about trans people from the media. This is a problem because, as shown in the Netflix documentary Disclosure, the media has misrepresented, mischaracterized, and stereotyped trans people since the invention of film. I am so grateful for Pascale's writing, and for the relationships, introductions and learning I have shared personally with trans friends, colleagues and clients in recent years. At Purppl, as an organization committed to fostering #inclusion, #belonging, and #diverse communities and valuing the gifts of every human, in creating a just, equitable and sustainable world, we celebrate the joy and resilience of trans and non-binary people everywhere, by elevating voices and experiences from these communities. We commit to working together to combat disinformation, discrimination and hate impacting our communities - today and every day.

Personal account, all views are my own. Wastewater Market Sector Lead, Global

Hi Folks, This week marks International Transgender Day Of Visibility 2024 - I've written a short piece about why it's important for trans folk like myself to be visible, both professionally and socially, and that with allies and support, we can thrive and dispel the misinformation put a bout by the media for quick political gains. I hope you find it useful, and I'm more than happy to talk with people about it, and UK transgender healthcare provision, amongst other aspects. Many Thanks, Pascale #TDOV #RSC #BuildingEquality
